The Bureau of Meteorology warned very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Boonah and Oakey after Oakey had reportedly experienced a 120 km/h wind gust at 6.30pm.
"These thunderstorms are moving towards the north," BoM said.
"Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Harrisville, Peak Crossing and Haden by 7.05pm and Ipswich, Amberley and Cooyar by 7.35pm."
There were warnings also that parts of Wide Bay and Burnett would be affected, as would as the Darling Downs and Scenic Rim regions.
Bureau of Meterology warned that storms near Kilarney had weakened slightly but severe thunderstorms were still heading towards areas, including Warwick, Toowoomba, Dalby and Stanthorpe on Thursday night.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advised residents to move their car under cover or away from trees, seek shelter and avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
