About 4.45pm, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning, due to affect a swathe of the state from Texas in the south to west of Maryborough.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds over several hours.
The Gold Coast, Brisbane, Gympie, Ipswich, Coolangatta, Gatton and Jimboomba may be affected.

Brisbane is forecast to receive showers and possible storms every day this week, with maximum temperatures in the low 30s, until Saturday, which is expected to be mostly sunny.
