A show cause notice issued to the owner of the Broadway Hotel, which was nearly destroyed by a fire in September, has been extended until January by Brisbane City Council.

The notice was issued to the owner, Malcolm Nyst, on November 12 requesting representations on why the council shouldn't issue further enforcement notices on the hotel's dilapidated condition.
The Woolloongabba hotel, on Logan Road, has been left derelict after several fires since 2010, with the building vulnerable to vandalism and further destruction.
That order was expected to expire on Friday.
"A request to extend the show cause notice until 14 January 2019 has been granted to the owner of the Broadway Hotel," a council spokeswoman said on Friday.
The council did not respond to a question about whether the spat between the state government and the council over who was responsible for enforcement action on the Broadway had been resolved.
After the September fire, Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch issued a stop order preventing demolition of the heritage-listed building, which was extended to March next year.
Ms Enoch and Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, in whose electorate the Broadway Hotel sits, both called on the council to use its powers under the Building Act to force further repairs to the Broadway.
The Environment Department commissioned a specialist engineers' report on the Broadway's infrastructure after the fire, which showed it was mostly sound but had some degradation in certain parapets and brickwork.
That report was shared with Dr Nyst.
But the council has in turn accused the state government of "shirking its duty" in not enforcing further action under the Heritage Act.
Lord mayor Graham Quirk wrote to Ms Enoch requesting additional powers be approved under state legislation, giving the council greater authority to request maintenance works on the hotel.
The council argued that maintenance works on the building were primarily of heritage value, not of public amenity, with city planning chairman Matthew Bourke calling on the state government to enact their powers and protect the hotel.
Images shared on social media by concerned community members showed some scaffolding and repairs underway.
Photos also showed a pool of green, stagnant water beneath the building, which was reported to the council.
A development application was submitted to the council on March 13, 2017, proposing a 27-storey residential tower, but in July 2018 the plans were withdrawn with the developer citing it would turn to the council for help to create a development the council would support.
Since then there has been no further development submitted on the site.
