The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning for parts of Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts at 3pm.

Scattered thunderstorms across southern inland Queensland with some severe storms were still expected.

Damaging winds and large hailstones were expected in the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Roma, Charleville, Emerald, St George, Blackwater, Mitchell, Taroom, Tambo, Rolleston, Springsure, Carnarvon National Park and Tara.

An earlier warning at 1pm was issued for parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, and Maranoa and Warrego districts.

The warning predicted severe thunderstorms were developing around southern inland Queensland.

Earlier on Sunday, forecaster David Crock said storms passed through the southern suburbs of Brisbane in the later afternoon and early evening on Saturday.

"Mansfield, south of Carindale, received about 38 millimetres while the city and northern suburbs didn't get too much rainfall," he said.

Mr Crock said a second storm cell went through the Sunshine Coast while a storm was affecting Kilcoy and surrounding areas as it headed towards Gympie.

"We had reports of large trees being blown over in Kilcoy and golf-ball-size hail near Toogoolawah about four centimetres big, seeing 43 millimetres of rainfall," he said.

"We had no reports of significant wind gusts in that area but a different storm went through Toowoomba, with gusts of 85 to 90 kilometres per hour and 28 millimetres by the course of the afternoon."

Mr Crock said storms were heading towards the southern inland with the Roma and St George areas to cop the aftermath.

"We may be issuing some warnings this evening so I suggest people should always pay attention to the radio and the (BOM) website for any latest warnings and checking the radar," he said.
