Two dead after head-on collision near Rockhampton

Police believe a Holden Commodore sedan and Ford Falcon ute collided head-on on Lakes Creek Road at Koongal about 4.10am.

The driver of the utility, a 47-year-old man from Gracemere, and the driver of the sedan, a 37-year-old woman from Kawana, both died at the scene.

A 39-year-old Kawana man, who was a passenger in the sedan, was taken to the Rockhampton Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit were continuing as officers appealed for witnesses or other drivers with dash cam vision to contact them.

Lakes Creek Road remained closed on Saturday morning.
