Woman, 87, dies while riding mobility scooter on the Gold Coast

A woman has been killed while crossing a road on a mobility scooter after she was struck by a vehicle on the Gold Coast.

Police said a vehicle was travelling on Handsford Road at Coombabah, a neighbouring suburb of Biggera Waters, about 11.15am when the pedestrian was struck on Tuesday.

The 87-year-old woman suffered critical head injuries and was dead at the scene.

The 76-year-old male driver was not physically injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
