Applications to renew, upgrade or replace driver licences, practical driving tests, re-issuing licences after cancellations and change of name are all now paperless at Transport and Main Roads customer service centres.

Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the new process would make it faster and easier for people to complete registration and licensing transactions.

Anyone with an existing smart card, including Queensland driver's licence, marine licence and adult proof of age card will be able to complete several transactions without filling out a paper form.

People will be asked to answer some questions to help identify them and access their information.

Mr Bailey said the removal of paper forms for different transactions would be rolled out in stages over 2018.

"We plan to get rid of forms for other common transactions, including licensing services for new customers who don't have an existing smart card, as well as registration services," he said.

The paperless movement is being rolled out statewide following a trial in Toowoomba last year.

"There was overwhelmingly positive feedback from customers to the trial," Mr Bailey said.

"Customers commented on the ease and simplicity of the new process, and how much quicker it was without having to complete a paper form."

Under the new process, customers are still required to bring all the necessary supporting documents to conduct their business, including identity evidence and any other materials they need.

To ensure the accuracy of information recorded during conversations, customers will also be required to confirm the details of the transactions when they were finished.

In the future, paperless transactions will be available for issuing learner licences and issuing licences to overseas and interstate applicants.
