Renshaw will open the batting for Queensland against Australia's first-choice bowling attack under the guise of NSW's baggy blue in the Sheffield Shield at Manuka Oval on Friday.

The Queensland batsman admits the heat is on to go big against an attack boasting Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon.

And his former Australian teammates won't be going easy on him in an international shootout reviving memories of Australia v Australia A in tri-series competitions of old.

"If Matt Renshaw comes out and bats well against any opposition, but against this opposition, I daresay it’s going to weigh pretty heavily," Lyon said.

"In saying that we aren’t going to go easy on him just because he’s one of our mates and he’s trying to get back into the Test side. We’re not going to go easy on him.

"I know Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns at the top of the order there, they’re pushing for selection, and also you’ve got Marnus [Labuschagne] in the middle order as well.

"It’s going to be a great opportunity for those guys to stand up, especially against a decent bowling attack. I’m hoping we can knock them over pretty easy."

Renshaw will join fellow Test discard Joe Burns at the top of the order for a Bulls outfit also featuring Marnus Labuschagne as he fights to keep his spot in the XI for the opening Test against India.

Aaron Finch is likely to assume one of Australia's opening spots while Usman Khawaja is a walk-up start should he prove himself git, while Mitchell Marsh and Shaun Marsh are again in the reckoning after impressing on home soil.

It means Renshaw will need runs and plenty of them if the 22-year-old is going to add to his 11 Test caps, relying on a few extra training sessions with his father to get him to three figures.

"If you get 100 everyone is loving you, but if you get 99 you failed," Renshaw said.

"Everyone deals in hundreds, whether that’s in club cricket, Shield cricket or Test cricket. You’re always numbered on how many hundreds you get.

"It’s another bowling attack, we can’t put anyone on a pedestal, they’re obviously a good bowling attack but we’ve just got to face that Kookaburra coming down at us.

"I’m not too focussed on that, I’m just worried about the ball coming down at me and trying to bat as long as I can. As an opener it’s going to be tough against the new ball, as it always is, and we’ll just be trying to bat as long as we can so the team can succeed. That’s my number one priority."
