Sports journalist Josh Massoud has taken legal action against more than half a dozen media outlets over the coverage of his departure from the Seven Network.

Lawyers acting for Massoud have sent defamation notices to 2GB, KIIS 106.5FM, The Daily Telegraph, the Nine Network, B&T; Magazine, Fox Sports and The Sporting News on Thursday morning.
The notices relate to the reporting of an alleged death threat attributed to Massoud.
“The stories written about me contained a complete and utter fabrication that completely
misrepresented what took place and severely damaged my reputation,” Massoud said.
“This fabrication has been repeated on numerous occasions by numerous media organisations, deepening the damage to my professional and personal reputation.”
The stories are connected to an incident that occurred on May 1 of last year when Massoud was employed as a sports reporter with Seven.
That incident was subject to an internal investigation by the network, which made conclusions about a phone conversation between Massoud and a colleague.
“There is a significant difference between what the parties involved agreed occurred and what certain sections of the media actually reported,” said Massoud’s lawyer, Stewart O’Connell of O’Brien Criminal and Civil Solicitors.
“It is hard to understand how they could have got it so wrong and the result has been devastating to my client’s reputation.”
