The W-League looks set to become a full home-and-away season if a recommendation from the New Leagues Working Group is implemented.

Football Federation Australia formed the NLWG in October and asked it to determine if an alternative governance model for the A-League, W-League and Y-League was required.
The report submitted this week recommended the leagues become independent and that the W-League moves to a full home-and-away season.
It would take the season from 12 games to 16 games but the league would still run from late October to mid-February, which means teams would play four mid-week games.
Capital Football chairman Mark O'Neill represented the ACT federation in the NLWG and said all parties supported growing the W-League season.
"Everyone agreed the need to complete the W-League to two rounds of home and away and to realise the complete product that the W-League is not yet," O'Neill said.
"When home-and-away is going to happen is the moot point. It has to be suitable and commercially viable. But it will really help us compete with overseas competitions.
"It's about making the W-League more competitive internationally so we can retain our players and attract more overseas talent."
Canberra is the only W-League club not affiliated with an A-League team but O'Neill emphasised Canberra wouldn't be left behind when the leagues become independent.
"The refreshing thing working through this was the unanimity around Canberra United's ongoing role in the W-League and the consensus around the need to develop the W-League," O'Neill said.
"Canberra United is built on its own integrity and I don't think there was ever any real threat to the club's future. The only threat was to the extent to which A-League clubs wanted to retain a closed shop sort of thing.
"The commercial reality for clubs is that they see the need to expand their product as well. We’re happy to stand on our own two feet and derive the advantage that comes from our participation.
"Canberra United is well respected which was good to hear. Others advocating on our behalf makes it, in the parlance of football politics, a very pleasant experience."
Capital Football is still deciding if Canberra United coach Heather Garriock will be reappointed for a third season, but O'Neill said a decision would be made soon.
"The board is considering the review of the Canberra United program done by our CEO [Phil Brown] and technical director [Scott O'Donell]," O'Neill said.
"They engaged players and coaches in that review which is the ordinary process and hopefully we have something to say about that in the near future."
A complete W-League season would continue the booming women's sporting movement in Australia.
There was a near-capacity 53,000 in attendance at the AFLW grand final in Adelaide last week, while the Matildas World Cup campaign in France next month will be closely followed by the Australian public.
The Matildas are in camp ahead of a friendly against the United States in Colorado on Friday, their final international before their World Cup-opener against Italy on June 9.
Former Canberra United goalkeeper Lydia Williams will lead the Matildas at the World Cup and said the team was flourishing under new coach Ante Milicic.
"The team has known each other for so long as a group and the work that Ante and the staff have put in is fantastic and every time we come into camp we're building on that," Williams said.
"Ante is just really confident in the way we play and can play and wants to build that and no matter what team we come up against. He wants to always impart the style and believe we have in each other and Australia as a country.
"Every time we come into camp we’re really positive he wants us to take risks and be confident in how we can play so that’s always exciting.
"This week is just another step towards that and a good test for us, we have a couple more games before our first game against Italy."
