A man in his 60s has suffered serious head injuries when he came off his bike while on a trip with a group of motorcyclists in the Somerset region.

An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter received a call about the man being reportedly unconscious after coming off his bike while riding over a cattle grid about 5pm on Saturday near forestry off Eastern Branch Road at Mount Stanley.

Emergency beacons were activated and led the aircraft to the incident.
The man was stabilised and airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition, with a critical care doctor and flight paramedic.
