Retailers have put prices up to almost $1.54/litre for regular unleaded as the peak of the cycle arrives once again, but the latest price increase is 13¢ higher compared to the past few months.

RACQ spokeswoman Lucinda Ross said prices had jumped since the start of the week, with almost 30 per cent of Brisbane service stations selling at 153.9¢/litre by Thursday.

"It is really shocking. We are seeing those service stations hiking 13¢ per litre higher than they did the last time prices hiked just a month, so that is disappointing," she said.

"But equally disappointing, is the fact that retail margins are now at 27¢ per litre if you are looking at the new high price of $1.54 for unleaded.

"There is still some cheap fuel available, so our advice to drivers is to make sure you get out there today and fill up if you do spot fuel for $1.28 or less, there is plenty of it still around but it will only be around for a very short period of time."

Brisbane's fuel price cycle spans four to five weeks and the difference between the cheap and expensive phase can be as much as 30¢/litre, Ms Ross said.

On Thursday, an array of service stations were still selling regular unleaded for $1.28/litre or less, according to fuel comparison service PetrolSpy.

North of Brisbane's CBD, cheap service stations included Shell in Kelvin Grove, BP at The Gap, Caltex in Virginia and Bracken Ridge, Puma in Clayfield and Everton Park and 7-Eleven in Albany Creek.

On the southside, cheap service stations included Caltex in Camp Hill and Capalaba, Puma in Wishart, Liberty in Moorooka, Freedom Fuels in Acacia Ridge and Coles Express in Rochedale.

On the Gold Coast, cheap service stations included 7-Eleven at Pimpama and Palm Beach, Caltex in Hope Island and Broadbeach, Matilda in Southport and United at Mudgeeraba.

On the Sunshine Coast, Caltex at Nambour and Sippy Downs, Matilda in Currimundi, BP in Mooloolaba, Rainbow Fuel at Caloundra and Puma in Peregian Beach.
