Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has left open the possibility that candidates in state government elections might be restricted in how much they could spend on campaigning.

The Queensland government has announced proposed reforms for councils, including campaign spending caps, compulsory preferential voting, mandatory training for all candidates and proportional representation.
Under the campaign cap, councillors would be limited to a campaign war chest of up to $20,000 and mayors up to $100,000.
In October 2017, Ms Palaszczuk said: "I will not make rules for local councils that I am not prepared to follow myself, so any changes we make will apply to state as well as local government."
Asked about those comments, which she made when extending a donation ban for property developers from councils to state government following a Crime and Corruption Commission review, Ms Palaszczuk did not rule out extending campaign caps beyond councils.
Ms Palaszczuk said the council reforms would be subject to consultation.
"We wouldn't rule out expenditure caps for the state down the track," she said.
"But the focus at the moment is on local, we've got the local council elections coming up, we want to implement the Belcarra [reforms].
"And of course Stirling Hinchliffe, as the [Local Government] Minister, is committed to consulting with mayors and councillors across the state."
LNP leader Deb Frecklington said Labor had not briefed the opposition on the proposed reforms.
"I think it's important that we actually listen to the Local Government Association, as well as local councils and local mayors, to ascertain what they think of the system as well," she said.
The next Queensland council elections are due to be held in March 2020.
