A woman has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after she was impaled by a metal pole that smashed through her windscreen, according to Queensland Police.

The woman was driving on the Warrego Highway near Oakey, north-west of Toowoomba, just after 3pm when the incident occurred.
Police said it was not clear how the incident happened but it was believed a metal pole came off a truck in front of the woman's car and impaled the female driver.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics treated one adult female patient and she was taken in a helicopter to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition with a serious chest wound.
It was not known if the woman had any passengers in her car.
The Warrego Highway remains closed after the crash, with diversions via Brimblecombe Road and Oakey-Biddeston Road.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
