An inquest into the death of the an Iranian refugee who died after setting himself alight in protest over conditions on Nauru will begin in Brisbane on Monday.

Omid Masoumali, 23, doused himself in petrol and set himself on fire on Nauru in April 2016.
A pre-inquest conference heard last year that he set himself alight in front of officials from the United Nations Refugee Agency.
Mr Masoumali suffered severe burns to more than half of his body and died two days later in a Brisbane hospital from multiple organ failure.
His transfer by air ambulance for urgent medical treatment in Australia took almost 24 hours.
The inquest was expected to examine whether the evacuation delay contributed to his death.
Lawyer Sarah Atkinson, who is representing Mr Masoumali’s partner, said the 23-year-old remained at the for almost 24 hours before being airlifted to Brisbane.
"What we know is that quick evacuation is extremely important when dealing with patients with serious and complex injuries, like those sustained by Omid. It is therefore vitally important that the medical evacuation process works properly," Ms Atkinson said.
Human Rights Law Centre's Katie Robertson said changes must be made.
"A young man lost hope, he lost a chance for a better future and ultimately, he lost his life. And a young woman lost her partner – a man she described as her breath, her hope, her life and her base," she said.
"Nothing can change the past. But lessons can be learnt."
A vigil was set to be held outside the Brisbane's coroners court as the inquest will begin on Monday.
It comes after the medical evacuations bill passed the Federal Parliament this month, making it easier for asylum seekers on Nauru and Manus Island to get necessary medical treatment in Australia, against the Government’s wishes.
The Coalition said refugees and asylum seekers on Manus Island and Nauru will now mostly be sent to Christmas Island for medical treatment.
Christmas Island’s six-bed hospital is not equipped for childbirth or surgery, has no psychiatric or other specialist services and even patients needing broken bones set may be forced to travel to the mainland, according to the island's council.
Doctors For Refugees president Barri Phatarfod says sick refugees and asylum seekers are transferred to Australia “to obtain the urgent, sometimes life-saving care” unavailable in Papua New Guinea or Nauru.
“Transferring them to Christmas Island is like evacuating a critical patient from Bourke and flying him to Kalgoorlie,” Dr Phatarfod says, adding the practice has “absolutely no basis in modern medicine”.
“It is inherently dangerous to those who have to get on and off multiple small flights with IV drips, assisted ventilation and a precarious clinical condition. Are there going to be doctors, including an anaesthetist on every leg? If so this is an extraordinary waste of money and other valuable resources.”
