Former federal politician Clive Palmer has failed in his bid to have charges laid by the corporate watchdog thrown out of court.

The controversial businessman's civil case, which involved claims a federal MP mailed him a boxing glove as a threat over his refusal to sell land on the Gold Coast to a church, was briefly heard in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Mr Palmer and his company Palmer Leisure Coolum lodged a civil claim in the Supreme Court asking for criminal proceedings before the Magistrates Court to be stayed permanently, with Mr Palmer arguing they were brought for an improper purpose and "doomed to fail".
The Queensland mining magnate and PLC had been charged by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission over an unfulfilled 2012 proposal to buy shares of another company, The President's Club, that owned properties at his Sunshine Coast resort.
Supreme Court Justice Soraya Ryan ordered Mr Palmer and PLC's claims be set aside and the statements of claim be struck out.
In her 56-page judgment, Judge Ryan said the administration of criminal law should be left to the criminal courts and the Supreme Court should only intervene rarely and in truly exceptional circumstances.
"I found nothing exceptional in this case," she said.
Judge Ryan said allegations ASIC and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions were persuaded by the Australian government to prosecute Mr Palmer were "serious in the extreme" and did not survive scrutiny.
The defendants, the Commonwealth DPP and the Australian Securities and Investment Commission, had argued Mr Palmer's case was an abuse of process, would unacceptably fragment criminal proceedings and allegations of a government conspiracy were "groundless and scandalous".
They argued the case was an "inappropriate attempt to interfere with the criminal process".
Court documents revealed a series of bizarre claims by Mr Palmer, including a "coordinated, targeted campaign" against him by the Australian government, featuring a "whiteboard in Canberra", on which MPs plotted ways they could get him.
Mr Palmer alleged LNP member for Fadden Stuart Robert had repeatedly asked him to sell a $6 million slice of Gold Coast land to his church, and even sent him a boxing glove in a box as an apparent "threat" if he did not agree to the sale.
Earlier this month, a spokesman for Mr Robert said the claims were "ridiculous" and the Minister did not "believe they warrant a response".
Mr Palmer argued the charges were politically-motivated and it was in the interests of LNP members for him to be convicted of an offence punishable by jail for one year or longer, as he would be disqualified from seeking election at the upcoming federal election.
Mr Palmer was not required to appear on Wednesday.
The parties were asked to make written submissions about costs.
The ASIC charges are still before the Magistrates Court.
Mr Palmer has announced his revamped United Australia Party will run candidates in all 151 lower house seats at the upcoming federal election, while he will contest the Townsville seat of Herbert, the site of his shuttered refinery.
