Visiting the Miriam Vale evacuation centre near Gladstone on Friday, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk launched the Queensland Bushfire Appeal.
Ms Palaszczuk said the state government would start the appeal with a donation of $125,000.
"I need Queenslanders to dig deep," she said.
"We need to help people. Some people will lose everything.
"Please, please help Queensland families that are really doing it tough at the moment."
Ms Palaszczuk said the bushfires were devastating, especially with Christmas only a few weeks away.
"We've already seen the heartbreaking impact of these bushfires - vast swathes of land stripped and blackened, properties reduced to rubble and hundreds of families forced to evacuate their homes," she said.
"The best way to help is to give cash, which is easily transported and supports local businesses.
"We had the Mud Army after the floods but it's not safe to have an Ash Army. Giving cash is the way to help this time."
People can donate directly to GIVIT, the Australian Red Cross, the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society of Queensland and UnitingCare.
Earlier, Ms Palaszczuk was in Gladstone to thank New South Wales firefighters who had assisted in firefighting efforts.
"This is the nation coming together. Thank you to everyone for coming and helping out Queensland," she said.
"Our local firefighters have been doing an outstanding job on the frontline but they need to have a rest, we need to get reinforcements here and we're going to keep doing the change-around shifts."
Firefighters from NSW, Victoria, ACT, Tasmania and South Australia were sent to support Queensland efforts this week.
The government's temporary emergency accommodation plan has been activated so anyone who needs emergency housing should call 13QGOV (13 74 68).
