An emergency alert was issued for the area in Peak Crossing, about 25 kilometres from Ipswich, at 12.40pm on Saturday due to a nearby bush fire at Undullah that broke out about 7.10am.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said no homes were under threat at this stage but the area was known for attracting visitors on weekends for outdoor activities.

He said an emergency text message was sent for those who were not checking social media to be aware of the nearby danger.

The QFES is also warning residents to keep up-to-date with information and decide what actions they would take if the situation changes.

Nine trucks were on the way to help with the fire on Saturday morning while 16 trucks were already on scene at Undullah.

The fire was burning in inaccessible land at Undullah and the Flinders Peak Conservation Park.

"Currently as at 11.10am, 24 November 2018, a bushfire is travelling in an east, north-easterly direction between Washpool Road and Mount Elliott Road, Undullah," the latest QFES update said.

"People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

"Hikers are advised to leave Flinders Peak Conservation Park immediately."

People affected were urged to listen to their local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service website for regular updates, close windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure and drive with caution.

For those who have a bush fire survival plan and be ready to follow it while other who don't are urged to identify where you will go if the situation changes.

Consider finding essential items to take if forced to leave homes as well as taking measures tro protect pets and livestock.

Residents should to call triple zero immediately if they believe their property is under threat.
