Despite carnage on the state's roads and the loss of seven lives across the weekend, figures show the Queensland road toll was the lowest in four years at the start of the new week.

Among the weekend tragedy was a crash in the state's north which claimed the lives of three teenage friends at the scene and the fourth occupant of the car died in hospital a few days later.
Shawn Wood, 18, was one of the three young men who died in the partially submerged wreck before it was discovered off Tully Gorge Road, 30 kilometres west of Tully, about 1pm Saturday.
His mother, Yvonne Feakes, fought back tears as she spoke of her son and made a passionate plea to other young motorists.
"He’s never coming home," she told Seven News.
"Don’t drink, don’t drive. It’s not worth it," she said. "It’s so not worth it."
Mr Wood's father, Greg, said the crash victim left behind three younger brothers.
"They’re lost. They looked up to him, they idolised him. He was their oldest brother, and now they don’t have that anymore," he said.
Friends, family and well wishers have flooded social media with tributes to the four friends.
"I can’t stop looking at all of the photos and videos we have together," Tanaeu Darker wrote.
"You boys always managed to make me smile every single day no matter what. I am beyond grateful to have known you boys the way I did."
GoFundMe pages have been set-up, with tens of thousands of dollars already raised for the four crash victims leave behind.
By the end of Sunday, the state's road toll stood at 50, according to the Department of Transport and Main Roads' weekly report, significantly less than the 64 lives lost at the same point last year.
It was also lower than the road toll at the same point in 2017 and 2016, but not as low as 2015 when the number of deaths sat at 47.
The road toll figures as of March 31 highlighted a decrease in fatalities involving heavy vehicles (down 43 per cent), pedestrians (down 38 per cent) and passengers (down 33 per cent).
In addition, the densely populated Brisbane and south-east Queensland, home to 73 per cent of the state’s population, accounted for just 20 per cent of the total road toll, as of Sunday.
However, Professor Narelle Haworth, from QUT's Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety, said road fatality figures often fluctuate or decrease by chance.
"Because the total number of people killed on our roads is statistically small, then large variations can be expected to occur by chance," she said.
"It is hard to tell whether [the latest data] reflects a real effect of policies or merely random fluctuation."
Professor Haworth also said fatalities are more likely to occur in rural areas due to higher road speeds, less police enforcement and longer distances for emergency travel.
Since Sunday, four more lives have been lost on the roads.
Police confirmed on Wednesday morning the fourth teenager in the Tully crash had died in Townsville Hospital overnight.
Two people were killed in a crash near Rolleston, west of Rockhampton, on Wednesday when a car towing a caravan collided with semi-trailer before catching alight.
A man died in Milman, just outside Rockhampton, after his Toyota four-wheel-drive left the road and rolled.
