BoM meteorologist Harry Clark said the fog developed on Saturday evening to the west of Brisbane before moving towards the coast as the night wore on and lingering into the morning.

"It was mostly due to the rain yesterday because there was enough moisture at the surface, so once it cleared there were clear skies so it cooled down, condensed and developed," he said.

"There should still be enough moisture around to see fog return in the western suburbs tomorrow morning, but it won't be as widespread as today."

The south-east has enjoyed intermittent rain during the past eight days, with the heaviest falls being recorded on the Gold Coast, Brisbane's bayside suburbs and Stradbroke Island, according to Mr Clark.

South Stradbroke Island recorded 98 millimetres, Gold Coast received 42 millimetres, the Brisbane coastal suburb of Manly saw 37 millimetres, Sunshine Coast had 10 millimetres and Brisbane measured 13 millimetres.

Mr Clark described next week's weather as "pretty benign".

Brisbane was expecting partly cloudy and mostly sunny conditions, with minimums in the early teens and maximums in the mid-twenties. There was also little chance of rain.

Mr Clark said the only notable weather conditions in the state was the severe fire conditions in north-western Queensland around Mount Isa.
