Public service independence hinges on appointments

My article for last month's Informant ("Public service values are under threat") drew an unusual level of response from readers and obviously struck a chord. The argument, to recall, was that the Thodey review of the Australian Public Service could not afford to take APS values of respect for due process and the rule of law for granted in the face of three continuing challenges:
