Queensland budget 2018: Winners and losers

Winners 

• There will be $5.5 billion spent on concessions, a $200 million increase on last year's budget.
• The 50 per cent payroll tax rebate scheme will be extended until June 2019, to support 26,000 apprentices and trainees.
• $45.8 billion wil be spent on infrastructure over the next four years, with 65 per cent to be spent outside Greater Brisbane.
• $371.1 million will be spent over four years to develop a new public transport public ticketing system.
• Additional funding of $169.5 million over four years, and $81.5 million per year ongoing from 2022-23, will provide 400 police officers in high-priority areas across the state.
• A $250 million infrastructure boost will help make secondary schools "2020 Ready".
• $14.4 million over four years will help employ more music teachers in schools.

Losers

• The First Home Buyers' Grant will be reduced from $20,000 to $15,000 from July 2018, but the grant will be ongoing.
• The unemployment rate was forecast to remain at 6.25 per cent in the June quarter 2018 and 2019.
• Luxury car buyers will have to fork out, with an additional 2 per cent of dutiable value added to the duty costs for buyers of new cars with a price tag of more than $100,000, expected to raise $24.02 million in 2018-19.
• Interstate waste companies will have to pay $70 a tonne to dump in Queensland. The waste levy is expected to raise $1.32 billion over the next four years.
• The public sector will be asked to save $1.02 billion over the forward estimates in a measure called "reprioritisation", but this will not include the sale of "strategic income-earning assets" or forced redundancies.
