Thomson died after the horse she was riding broke its leg during trackwork last week, making it a sombre mood at Canberra's biggest day of racing for the year - Black Opal Stakes Day.

But it also allowed many in the racing industry to come together and celebrate her life, with a moving service in her honour starting the day.
The Raiders lost a golden-try thriller to the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville with a few controversial calls not helping their cause.
But there were plenty of good signs for the Green Machine, including the debut of Nick Cotric.
