Prime Minister's XI captain Adam Voges prepares to farewell international cricket

Prime Minister's XI captain Adam Voges is having no second thoughts about his decision with Wednesday's clash against Sri Lanka set to bring down the curtain on his international career.

Voges made his Test debut in 2015 against the West Indies and at 35 became the oldest player in Test history to make a century on debut.

The 37-year-old was ruled out of the remainder of the South African Test series in November after suffering a concussion in the Sheffield Shield.

The concussion ultimately cost Voges his Test spot after a run of low scores, and his last short format appearances for Australia came in 2013.

"This will be it for me," Voges said.

"I'm certainly looking forward to getting out there and playing this game. I've had an amazing couple of years with Australia with the Test team and I've loved every minute of it.

"I see this as a last opportunity to play against an international team and I'm certainly looking forward to that."

The Western Australian veteran had to make a point of introducing himself to a number of his Prime Minister's XI teammates for the first time when they touched down in Canberra.

Victorian fast bowler James Pattinson was ruled out on Tuesday night with New South Wales bowler Harry Conway coming into the squad.

It was the third change since the squad was announced, after Sam Heazlett and Hilton Cartwright replaced Will Pucovski and George Bailey.

While many players usually get acquainted with one another on the domestic circuit, Voges was yet to cross paths with teenage duo Arjun Nair and Jason Sangha.

Voges was 20 years old when Sangha was born, and made his first class debut when the pair of New South Wales youngsters were still toddlers.

The Perth Scorchers skipper earned his first Prime Minister's XI cap in 2005 and made his Australian ODI debut little over a year later, and hopes to see something similar from some of his teammates.

"I think the PM's game is always an opportunity for young guys to get that opportunity against international opposition, and it's an opportunity for them to make a bit of a name for themselves," Voges said.

"That's the message I'll be giving the guys, is to go out and enjoy the game but see this as a real opportunity against a good international team.

"I've had a little bit of experience now of playing with guys who are a fair bit younger than me. I'm really looking forward to seeing what these young guys can bring.

"They're obviously extremely talented young cricketers and hopefully they can go out, show their skills, and put on a good show."

A fair player turnover means this Sri Lankan side differs quite a lot from the Test outfit Voges faced in the baggy green, meaning the visitors boast a "little bit of an unknown factor."

Sri Lanka are set to play a three-match Twenty20 international series against Australia almost immediately after pulling up stumps in Canberra.

With Voges' WA and Perth Scorchers mentor Justin Langer taking the reins of the Australian side for the series, the former will be on the phone not long after the game to give Langer plenty of intel.
