Daniel Worrall relishing the chance to face Sri Lanka for Prime Minister's XI

He is the Prime Minister's XI quick nicknamed "Frank" after the stylish ex-West Indies captain Frank Worrell, and he sports a bowling run up in the same vein as another Caribbean legend.

Worrall veers in from left field before every delivery, reminiscent of former West Indies fast bowler Malcolm Marshall - but the explanation for that one is simple.

He didn't model his run up on the Barbados great, rather it was something he had to do as a kid in the backyard to get some more pace on his deliveries.

"There was a tree in the backyard so if you wanted to get a run up you had to run around the tree," Worrall said.

Worrall has become accustomed to massive leaps in his cricketing career, which took him from eating a pack of mee goreng noodles for dinner every night to a rookie contract with South Australia in 2012-13.

The next jump was a tour of South Africa with the Australian one-day side which left him with a little dent in his armour.

Worrall made his ODI debut for Australia in the horror 5-0 series whitewash against South Africa, where he was still a relative unknown despite building an impressive Sheffield Shield record.

He picked up 1-171 across three games in South Africa, and now Worrall is relishing the chance to play against Sri Lanka for the Prime Minister's XI to prove he can cut it against international opposition.

"The PM's XI is steeped in tradition and history, and it's always great for the guys that aren't necessarily in the national set-up to prove themselves against an international outfit," Worrall said.

"I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a little dent in my confidence but having that experience, you figure out where you're at and you figure out what you've got to do to be better next time you're at that level.

"In terms of results it didn't go our way, but from a personal standpoint it was a great learning experience. I think that's what it was for the whole squad over there.

"When you're in foreign conditions and against a quality outfit in South Africa, you test yourself against the best and you learn from that."

A taste of the international arena in South Africa has left Worrall "hungrier for more opportunities" to challenge himself against the best.

Worrall has been in the state system for five years and has picked up 83 wickets in 23 first class matches.

South Australia's bowling attack has gone from strength to strength in recent seasons and a host of the players have featured in the national squad.

Chadd Sayers has been taking wickets for fun in first class cricket, Joe Mennie and Kane Richardson have both turned out for Australia, and now Worrall wants his turn in the spotlight.

Worrall's next chance to prove himself to national selectors comes at Manuka Oval on Wednesday night.
