The Queensland government has ordered an independent review of the mental health treatment of the man accused of the brutal killing of Brisbane bus driver Manmeet Alisher after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over his death.

Mr Alisher, who was 29 and a well-known singer in the local Punjabi community, died when an incendiary device was allegedly thrown inside his bus. A 48-year-old man, Anthony Mark Edward O'Donohue, has been charged with his murder.
Police have said they are unsure of the motive, while the Queensland government has confirmed Mr O'Donohue has previously received treatment for mental health issues.
In a telephone call to Mr Turnbull, Mr Modi "conveyed a sense of concern being felt in India over the recent brutal killing of Manmeet Alisher, a person of Indian origin, in Australia", India's external affairs ministry said in a statement.
Mr Alisher's brother arrived in Australia on Sunday to take his remains home. Indian political party AAP said Mr Alisher was a volunteer with the party.
Mr Alisher was the only casualty of the incident. Other passengers on board the bus escaped through the back door.
Mr O'Donohue will appear in court again next month.
