Toowoomba's Will Brown extended his lead atop the series' driver standings after his win.
Hill began the three-race series eighth on the grid, but edged his way into sixth overall in after the first race after pulling "a big move through the chase that got the heart rate going".
Hill's first Bathurst 1000 experience went to another level from there. Sitting sixth coming out of the second last turn, Hill passed three cars into the final corner to snatch a podium finish.
It meant little as Hill's third-place finish was stripped after being deemed to have passed one of those three cars under yellow, dropping him back to sixth place.
As a result Hill was always up against it in the third and final race, eventually unable to progress any higher than fifth overall to round out the event.
Hill now turns his attention to the series' final event, the Coates Hire Sydney 500 on December 2.
