A Bill Shorten-led government will invest $3 million for an indoor sports complex in Tuggeranong with the commitment to be matched by the ACT government.
It looms as a huge boost for the Tuggeranong Netball Association, which has 1200 registered players - a 20 per cent growth since 2015 - and caters for 2500 every Saturday.
"Netball is a winter sport and currently those thousands of players and their families are on outdoor courts, in the cold and with no protection from the rain," Labor candidate for Bean David Smith said.
"This investment will start the work to enclose facilities at Calwell to provide a year-round, seven-day-a-week, all-weather, multi-sport complex.
"In particular, this investment will provide modern, appropriate facilities for a number of sports with high proportions of women and girls participating, which is really important in terms of supporting current demand and future growth in female sport participation in the ACT."
