But coach Todd Larkham has warned that while statistics show Kyrgios is on track to reach his goal of winning a major title, his first-year achievements won't guarantee future success.

There are plans for Kyrgios to more than double his tournament workload next year to increase his matches played from 40 to almost 100 as his body and mind get used to the intensity.

But after finishing his singles season in Malaysia on Tuesday, Kyrgios has been ordered to take a complete rest from training and playing for at least 10 days to give his body a chance to recover from a bone stress injury in his left arm.

Kyrgios was beaten 7-6, 7-6 by fellow Australian Marinko Matosevic in Kuala Lumpur.

It finished a year that has seen him rise from No.183 to No.51 in the world rankings after playing at all four grand slams and making the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.

Kyrgios' record as an emerging teen is better than Federer, Murray and Djokovic and equal to Bernard Tomic.

But his remarkable victory against then-world No.1 Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon is a feat unmatched by the quartet at the same age.

It could be a glimpse of Kyrgios' future given Federer has won 17 major titles and Djokovic seven grand slams.

"We've looked at the statistics and they definitely do mean something," Larkham said.

"The majority of the players who win grand slams were very good when they were young. It does mean something, there's no doubt about that.

Tennis Australia has tracked results from the past 15 years of the top 50 players in the world back to when they were 12 to help them identify which of Australia's talented juniors get full scholarships and which players will make it.

Nadal set a new benchmark for teenagers, winning the French Open when he was 19. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray have dominated men's tennis for the past decade.

Kyrgios will return to Canberra in the coming week before taking He will take a seven-week break from tournaments to focus on building more strength and fitness to help him make the next step in his career.

He will spend time training at the AIS with Larkham and some of Australia's best youngs stars will be flown to the capital as training partners.

Kyrgios is still getting used to the grind of the professional circuit and admitted to being emotionally drained before he flew to Malaysia.

"Marinko has certainly improved a lot," he said. "I didn't play well today and I know that.."

Kyrgios has played at 13 tournaments this year and two Davis Cup ties for Australia. But the intensity of four grand slams took its toll.

Larkham said physical development was the priority for Kyrgios' seven-week training block.

"We can make some real endurance, strength and power gains in this period and we'll test at the AIS," Larkham said.

"Even though he hasn't played that many tournaments, they've been intense. It's an adjustment that he'll make the next year or two ... this is the reality of the tour and it goes all year.

"Next year we'll aim for 20-25 tournaments and almost 100 matches. Guys like Nadal and Federer were more physically developed at the same age."

Kyrgios' last official duties of his first full season will be the International Premier Tennis League in Singapore in November.
