On paper and at first glance, there are few obvious similarities between the properties at 8 Wylly Place in Hughes and 65 Buvelot Street, Weston.

For starters, they are in different suburbs. One has an outdoor pool, the other doesn't. They were built by different builders and designed by different architects.
But dig beneath the surface and the comparisons begin to emerge. And there are many.
For one, both are old Mr Fluffy blocks, once home to two of the 1023 Canberra dwellings that were contaminated with loose-fill asbestos.
Demolished and rebuilt, the two addresses now share a far more enviable bond.
The homes hold the sales records for their respective suburbs after being snapped up by buyers earlier this year.
The Buvelot Street property sold in early April for $2.01 million, smashing Weston's previous record by more than $450,000.
The home on Wylly Place was purchased in March for $1.82 million, eclipsing the previous record for the Woden suburb by $60,000.
What's more, the two properties were sold by the same agents - Rick and Tina Meir, from Hayman Partners.
Mr Meir said the homes were sold to families who wished to remain anonymous.
The Hayman Partners sales consultant was confident the luxury homes would attract strong interest from buyers, but he was pleasantly surprised by the final result.
The Buvelot Street property was snapped up before it was put on the market, he said. "At the property in Hughes, through the campaign we had 160 groups come through and view the property - many of them probably did not have an intention of buying, they just wanted to come and have a look," Mr Meir said.
"In Weston, we knew it was going to break new ground - it was just a case of taking it to the market. The sale price was phenomenal. That is the sort of money that you would expect to pay in Griffith."

- Rick Meir
Mr Meir said the Hughes and Weston homes were originally bought by builders Blackett Homes and Brother Projects respectively, who decided to buck a trend of subdividing larger Mr Fluffy blocks in order to deliver a single home with a backyard.
That "risk", as Mr Meir puts it, has paid off.
The five-bedroom, three-bathroom Wylly Place home was built across three levels on a sloping 721 square block. The Buvelot Street property also features five bedrooms and three bathrooms, but includes a lap pool.
"They [the builders] saw a gap in the market," he said. "My observation is that there has been a lot of knockdown, subdivide and rebuild. It's not too often that builders build to this quality, with a view to on-selling them.
"It is a very, very unique situation."
A total of 14 properties in Hughes have sold so far in 2019, with a median sale price of $897,000, according to Allhomes data. Some 24 properties have been snapped up in Weston, at an average sale price of $645,000.
