The progressive lobby believes the Liberal veteran is set to lose his northern Sydney seat of Warringah with a poll suggesting he trails independent Zali Steggall 44-56 on a two-candidate preferred basis.
The Lonergan poll commissioned by GetUp also suggested Mr Abbott's primary vote has dropped to 39 per cent - well below the 51.7 per cent he received at the 2016 election.
The poll has a margin of error of 3.4 per cent.
With two weeks still remaining in the campaign, GetUp volunteers have already doorknocked a third of the 60,000 homes in the electorate and called 100,000 phones.
"People in Warringah are demanding action on climate change like never before," campaign director Miriam Lyons said in a statement on Sunday.
The activist group's campaign hit a snag recently when it withdrew a controversial ad depicting a budgie smuggler-clad Tony Abbott refusing to rescue a swimmer, following outrage from lifesavers.
