Emergency services were called to the man’s home on Namatjira Drive by a neighbour about 4.40pm on Sunday.
ACT Ambulance and Fire and Rescue crews arrived to find the man pinned under the vehicle in the garage.
Ambulance officers assessed the man but he had died of the injuries he sustained and could not be revived.
About a dozen members of ACT Police collision investigation and reconstruction team were at the scene on Sunday night and will be conducting an investigation into the death and preparing a report for the coroner.
“The circumstances of how the vehicle was positioned and jacked up and the like – he was under the vehicle at the time when emergency services arrived – and the mechanical situation with the vehicle … will be investigated by our collision investigation and reconstruction team,” ACT Police station sergeant Joanne Cameron said.
“They’re the sorts of issues that will be addressed by the coronial investigation.”
Investigations are still being conducted into whether the man was home alone or working alone.
“The neighbours and the family are very distressed at this time – those inquiries will be conducted by police tonight and in the coming days,” Sergeant Cameron said on Sunday night.
"Understandably, this was a very tragic set of circumstances for the family concerned, and neighbours as well who knew the gentleman, and we ask that privacy is given to the family at this point in time."
