"I am not going into this year's nationals cocky in any way, given that this year will be a lot harder arguably because it is the first stage of Olympic qualification." Delatovi said.
Delatovic is coming off some good form after winning a silver medal at the Oceania Championships in Guam a couple of weeks ago.
Delatovic said that his first international competition came as a good preparation for this year's national titles.
"I got a silver medal there, which means that my general level of competition has been improving," Delatovic said.
"It means that I am sharp and that I am competition ready for this weekend.
"I'd be disappointed not to get a medal, my goal is a podium finish.
"There's two other ex-Australian champions in the bracket, so nothing is going to be given out easily."
While regularly training and competing for wrestling, Delatovic also has a passion for live music, meaning he is often stretched between the two.
Delatovic said there are both positives and negatives to pursuing both of his interests.
"It's tricky keeping a balance between my wrestling and music interest, you are always paranoid that you are giving one too much time over the other," Delatovic said.
"I find for me it's the creative practice within the arts and my athletic training has a lot of crossover.
"I like to be in environments where you are tested against the people who do it at the highest level possible."
Delatovic will have to put his musical talents and aspirations aside as the championships will act as the first step for participation in next year's Tokyo Olympics.
"I am aiming for qualification at the Tokyo Olympics and the process begins this weekend which I am really excited about."
