The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it was providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian that may be among the group of trekkers missing.
One of the missing people is believed to be Sydney woman Ruth McCance, a UK-born mountaineer in her late 40s.
The group was led by UK-based mountain guide Martin Moran, whose company Moran Mountain last posted about the expedition on Facebook on May 22.
The Facebook post said the group had reached their second base camp at 4870 metres and was preparing to make a summit attempt on the peak at 6477 metres.
