Sky News political editor David Speers will leave the news channel early next year for a role with the ABC, both networks have confirmed.

Last month it was revealed Speers will host the ABC's political panel show Insiders, replacing outgoing host Barrie Cassidy who is due to leave on June 9.
On Wednesday, Sky News chief executive Paul Whittaker said Speers will not take up the role until 2020, as the ABC said they were "delighted" to welcome him.
Annabel Crabb and Fran Kelly will share presenting duties on Insiders until Speers joins the ABC.
In a statement released by the ABC, Speers said he never misses Insiders and being able to present the program is "an honour and a terrific opportunity".
"Insiders is essential viewing if you're interested in politics and understanding how Australia is being led," he said.
He added on Twitter that he is ready for a new challenge, and still has "lots to do" in 2019.
Mr Whittaker said Speers "will be leaving Sky News early next year".
"He will continue on-air as political editor and anchor of Speers and Speers on Sunday until the end of his contract," Mr Whittaker said.
"David is an exceptional and highly respected journalist and one of Australia's most insightful political interviewers."
Mr Whittaker said Speers "spearheaded the growth of Sky News" in his 19 years with the network, making it a leader in political news and national affairs.
"David has been instrumental in developing our Canberra bureau into the editorial powerhouse it is today," Mr Whittaker said.
"His highly decorated career has seen him chosen to host leaders' debates and forums at the last six federal elections, as well as cover the last four US presidential elections.
"I'd like to thank David for his outstanding contribution to Australian journalism and for the proud and important legacy he leaves behind at Sky News. From all the team at Sky News, we wish him well."
ABC director of news Gaven Morris said Speers is "a terrific journalist and presenter, an astute political observer and a great talent".
"We are delighted to welcome him to this key role as the successor to the great Barrie Cassidy," Mr Morris said.
