Cricket World Cup 2019: Aaron Finch leads Australia to wi over Sri Lanka

Australia's captain produced a glorious 153 at The Oval on Saturday as part of his team's 7-334, making him the leading run-scorer of this year's World Cup.

Sri Lanka offered a brief scare in reply at 0-88 after 10 overs, before Mitchell Starc produced more of his one-day heroics to claim 4-55 as he he had them all out for 247.

Steve Smith also looked good again with his 73 from 59 balls, as he was busy at the crease in a 173-run third wicket stand with Finch.

But it was Finch's 153 from 132 that was most impressive at The Oval.

It marked the highest score made by an Australian captain in a World Cup, and equalled his previous ODI best.

He looked on from his first ball, driving Nuwan Pradeep back down the ground off for four.

He hit 14 more boundaries and whacked five sixes, in what was virtually a chanceless knock before he eventually skied one to cover in the last 10 overs.

"There's been a few technical things I've worked on that are just working at the moment," Finch said.

"My technique's probably tightened up slightly."

It comes just months after Finch looked out of touch, with pressure mounting late in the away series against India.

He has responded with 794 runs at an average of 88.22 in his last 10 games, stamping his authority as one of the world's form players.

"I probably just changed my mindset a little bit more than anything," Finch said.

"I started to doubt my game a lot before that in the Australian summer and there was a lot of times when I was just questioning every single decision that I was making.

"What I learned was you can strip it back as much as you want, but it doesn't change the basics of the game.

"The basics is an opening batter to go out there and defend the good ball and score runs ... Watch the ball and react to it."
