The 11-year old has read all of the 'Tiny Timmy' books, and even got to high-five the Australian legend at his Socceroos farewell game last year.
But McAlister never thought he'd receive a letter from his soccer idol telling him to pursue his dream of one day wearing the green and gold.
The young goalkeeper has aspirations of travelling to Italy later this year to train with the Juventus football Academy, and an inspirational letter from Cahill has left Vanna more determined then ever.
"Imagine a great player like Tim Cahill taking the time to be interested in a young kid like me and encouraging me to follow my dreams," McAlister said.
"That really is something."
McAlister originally began recycling cans as a way to save funds and pay for his trip to Italy.
But with the opportunity of a lifetime fast approaching, McAlister decided to set-up a crowdfunding page with the help of his mum, Jodie.
"I need about 450 people to support me with $10 to reach my goal," McAlister said.
McAlister has the chance to follow in the footsteps of current Gungahlin United goalkeeper Josh Lagudah, who will play in America this summer after committing to the University of Portland soccer program.
