Port's inconsistency is baffling: captain

The Power were branded as "untrustworthy" by their coach Ken Hinkley after a loss to lowly Western Bulldogs on Saturday night, a week after beating ladder-leaders Geelong.

"It has become a little bit baffling. Obviously we don't know the answer right now," Jonas told reporters on Monday.

Critics believe Port thrive on emotional challenges of playing competition heavyweights - in addition to downing Geelong, they're the sole club to beat reigning premiers West Coast in Perth this season.

But against lesser-lights such as the Bulldogs, the Power consistently fall short.

"We have probably got to own and accept that," Jonas said of the criticism.

"We have been an inconsistent team for a long time.

"We're doing everything we can to stamp that out but at the moment that seems to be the case.

"Fortunately this week it's usually a pretty emotional one ... so I daresay we will bounce back."

The Power meet arch foe Adelaide on Saturday with Jonas conceding coach Hinkley's weekend spray was justified.

"It's disappointing but Ken isn't saying anything that we don't already recognise," Jonas said.

"When we walk off the ground after a disappointing defeat, having gone win-loss, win-loss for a fair while, we know the reality so he's just saying what we're thinking."

Jonas also threw his support behind his out-of-sorts co-captain Ollie Wines, who mustered just a dozen disposals against the Dogs.

The possession tally was Wines's lowest in a match since his debut 2013 season, apart from when he damaged a shoulder early in a 2015 fixture.

"He's a really proud guy, so he was hurting a bit ... he was disappointed in that but he also gets out of his own individual game and helps others," Jonas said of Wines.

"I would expect a massive response. He will be buzzing around the club helping others but also working on his own game and he'd be eager to bounce back."
