Global technology company Alphabet's air delivery service, Wing, plans to lodge a development application with Logan City Council to modify its Berrinba delivery facility and permanently service the Logan area,south of Brisbane.
Wing will also seek approvals from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development in coming weeks.
The proposed delivery service will initially be available to a small group of eligible homes in Crestmead and Marsden as part of its Early Flyer program with plans to expand its customer base over time.
Wing currently operates its drone delivery service in Canberra suburbs including Crace, Franklin and Lamerston.
Drones are capable of delivering 1.5kg of items to homes within a 10km distance.
Australian head of operation Terrance Bouldin-Johnson said the company was looking forward to launching the first air delivery service in south-east Queensland.
"Queensland has staked out a leadership position in the advancement of drone technology and some of the most significant drone developments in the world are happening here," he said.
"Wing allows customers to order a range of items such as fresh bread, coffee or food items on our mobile app, and have them delivered directly to their homes by drone in minutes."
Wing will partner with Logan businesses to give customers the opportunity to have their items via drones.
The company will not charge a delivery fee during the early stage of the process.
