In a statement made via her Facebook page, Grace Tame said awarding Ms Arndt the honour was a mistake which could be corrected.

Ms Arndt, who is a conservative social commentator and sex therapist, became a general Member of the Order of Australia for services to gender equality.

She has previously uploaded a sympathetic video interview with Nicolaas Bester, the man who was jailed for repeatedly raping Grace Tame at age 15 while she was his student. In the interview Ms Arndt said that women like Ms Tame were "exploiting their seductive power to ruin the lives of men".

Ms Tame said awarding Bettina Ardnt a Medal of the Order of Australia sent the wrong message.

"The upshot of celebrating individuals who minimise such heinous crimes as paedophilia and rape, is the protracted perpetuation of victim-blaming and abuse itself," she said. "It reinforces our collective ignorance of the truth, which results in apathy and inaction."

"There is no honour in hatred, there is no honour in willingly victimising and shaming innocent, vulnerable individuals. There is no honour in championing a cause that comes at the expense of another."

Ms Ardnt has used social media to denounce any criticism of her award labelling it a feminist attack. She has claimed journalists and news outlets are twisting quotes to discredit her. She has been contacted for comment.
