Move to Zero 2.0 is a collaborative community focused art project that aims to explore how Canberrans can lower their carbon emissions.
The result is a series of dance videos that aim to inspire and create awareness of environmental issues.
Move to Zero began in 2018, and films produced during the project included "Dive Into A Car Pool" which featured dancers doing synchronised swimming in a car.
"Amidst the pandemic, human impact on the environment and issues of climate change continue," Australian Dance Party leader Alison Plevey said.
"Our Move to Zero project aims to keep energy, focus and collaboration towards developing and promoting zero emissions behaviours, and encourage community to get involved."
"In this current time, and all the time, both human health and the health of our environment is paramount, and they are inextricably linked."
Ms Plevey said the Australian Dance Party needed to adapt during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"It has been quite a challenge with the pandemic going on to keep the practice alive," she said.
"We have been doing a Zoom session weekly with my dance artists, that's been keeping us creative and physical.
"We developed an online community called Move to Zero which is a Facebook group, from there we started a community during the pandemic."
Plevey said she has started discussions about the changes people have gone through during COVID-19 through the Facebook group.
"[People are] acknowledging the really positive things - such as spending more time in nature, people making things from home, people cooking more, having more time and awareness of their behaviour," she said.
On June 4 the Australian Dance Party ran a Zoom session open to the public to collaborate and run a session where community members could brainstorm ideas for new dance film pieces.
Another collaboration session will be happening at Gorman Arts Centre, where the focus will be on creating storyboards for dance videos focusing on transport and lowering carbon transmission. Ms Plevey said transport was an environmental sore spot for Canberra.
"[Transport] is the number one emitter at the moment now that we are renewable in the electricity grid," she said.
She said while there was a slight activist edge to the project, it was also about keeping individuals accountable to the emission targets of the ACT government to get the territory carbon neutral by 2045.
The Australian Dance Party also encourages Canberrans to share their own self made Move To Zero videos on social media using the #movetozero hashtag.
