One of the competition's most improved midfielders under new Saints coach Brett Ratten, Steele is arguably having his best season and has racked up at least 20 disposals in all but one of his 14 matches this year.
The Belconnen Cats junior joined St Kilda from the GWS Giants at the end of 2016 and has played 75 matches for the Saints.
St Kilda were being talked up as premiership contenders earlier this season, but have cooled off in recent weeks losing three of their last four.
Steele booted a goal and collected 26 touches in last weekend's loss to Melbourne.
