A teenage girl will lose her recently acquired licence for speeding, after police detected her driving at 136km/h on the Majura Parkway.

When an officer stopped the 17-year-old driver in a 100km/h zone about 11.13pm on Saturday, checks revealed she had only been issued her licence a little more than two months ago.
ACT Policing said on Sunday morning that the girl would be fined $700 and would receive eight demerit points, with double-demerit penalties currently in place.
"As a provisional licence holder, this will result in the loss of her licence," police said.

In a statement, ACT Policing reminded drivers that double-demerit penalties would remain in effect until midnight on Monday night.
"During this period all speeding, seatbelt, riding without a helmet and mobile phone offences attract double the usual number of demerit points and all other traffic offences attract an additional demerit," the force said.
