When Burketown police recently completed the Small Boat Handlers Course, they took the opportunity to check that Albert River boaties were out on the water with the correct safety equipment onboard.
It seems that while the boaties were on their best behaviour, other river users could not be so trusted.
This large saltwater crocodilelooked like it could handle a small boat and police gave it a wide berth, and the only snapping going on was that of the camera.
It was one of at least two salties they caught on camera.
The police reaction was succinct: "Safe to say, they were not alone out there," they said on their social media post.
Indeed.
There are plenty of the reptiles to keep police and boaties company in this part of the world.
In May 2020 Burke Shire Council shared video footage of this 2m-long beauty on the nearby Leichhardt River.
