Tamworth Regional Council confirmed private controllers part of Taco Bell's traffic plan after popular opening

It seems locals are super keen for Taco Tuesday, with Tamworth's newest fast food restaurant causing a bit of a stir among the locals.

Huge traffic lines have been spotted in the area following the opening of the store on August 26.

It's led to Tamworth Regional Council confirming Taco will be responsible for managing entry to the Roderick Street site and are following a traffic control plan.

"Staff have been provided by a private traffic control company," a council spokeswoman told the Leader.

That means ratepayers are not footing the bill for taming the Taco Bell lines.

The council spokeswoman said the chain store is required to have traffic controls in place for as long as the queues posed a possible issue for other road users.

Based on the company's experience at other sites, this was anticipated to be anywhere between one and two weeks from opening.

Current traffic conditions indicate diners need to enter via the Peel Street roundabout, and queue up the hill in Roderick Street in the roped-off section.

The restaurant has proven popular, with locals reporting the Taco Bell line extended down the street and through the Peel Street roundabout at times late last week.
