To do so, ACM provided the ChatGPT platform with some context and this prompt: Hi. I'm a journalist for a news organisation in Australia. Please write me an article on the subject "What is ChatGPT?".
This is what followed.
ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is a state-of-the-art language model that uses machine learning to generate human-like responses in a conversational manner. It's been trained on a massive dataset of text from the internet, allowing it to respond to a wide range of topics with remarkable accuracy.
So what's it used for?
Students have been using ChatGPT to controversially write essays, while small businesses are utilising it for marketing and assistance in writing copy. However, ChatGPT is not just limited to these applications. With its ability to generate responses in a conversational manner, ChatGPT is being used in customer service, language translation, and even in mental health therapy.
Recently, tech giants such as Baidu, Microsoft, and Google have all announced their own versions of ChatGPT, each with their own unique twists. Baidu has introduced "Ernie", Microsoft has integrated ChatGPT into its Bing search engine, and Google has announced "Bard". The competition in the AI industry is heating up, and it's clear ChatGPT is leading the way.
As with any new technology, ChatGPT has its fair share of both benefits and drawbacks. On the one hand, it offers incredible convenience and speed in generating responses, making it a valuable tool for many industries. On the other hand, there are concerns about its potential to replace human jobs and the ethics surrounding its use in sensitive areas such as mental health therapy.
At this point ACM pauses ChatGPT to get context from a human
"If humans manage to control AGI before an intelligence explosion, it could transform science, economies, our environment and society with advances in every field of human endeavour." said federal Labor MP Julian Hill, in what is believed to be the first parliamentary speech partly-written by AI.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"But the risk that increasingly worries people far cleverer than me is the unlikelihood that humans will be able to control AGI, or that a malevolent actor may harness AI for mass destruction," Mr Hill said.
Back to ChatGPT's explanation of AI
Other AI models such as MidJourney, Dall-E, and Jasper are also gaining popularity and making their mark in the tech industry. However, ChatGPT's unique ability to generate human-like responses sets it apart and has cemented its place as a leader in the field of AI.
ChatGPT is a revolutionary AI model that is making waves in various industries and applications. But while it offers tremendous benefits, it's important to approach it with caution and consider its potential impacts on society. As with any new technology, it's up to us to determine how we use it, for better or for worse.
The OpenAI ChatGPT bot wrote 95% of this article based on a paragraph prompt. Resistance is futile. (We added this bit, clearly.)
