Nestle has announced "sad news" for an iconic Australian chocolate with the company ending production of Fantales after 93 years.

The chewy caramel and chocolate treats wrapped in 'fan tales' of famous actors and musicians were first created in 1930.
Nestle announced on June 20 declining sales and the need for "significant upgrades" required to continue production in Melbourne had led to the decision.
"Despite the sense of nostalgia Fantales evoke, unfortunately people simply aren't buying them as often as they used to," Nestle Oceania Confectionery General Manager Andrew Lawrey said.
The lollies will be available for sale while stocks last after the final production in mid-July.
Mr Lawrey said the equipment used to make Fantales at Nestle's Melbourne confectionery factory needed "significant investment".
"It's become increasingly difficult to get the parts we need to maintain it, and with declining sales, replacing it isn't viable," he said.
Staff from the Fantales production line will be moved to other roles within the factory, according to Nestle.
"We know our decision to stop making Fantales will be sad news for many people," Mr Lawrey said.
"Many of us grew up with Fantales and have fond memories of them."
