According to a leaked dealer bulletin viewed by CarExpert, MG 4 XPower deliveries have been paused to ensure customers have "the best possible experience of their new XPower vehicle".
The company is planning to fit an "additional vibration damper" to the vehicle prior to delivery. It's unclear if there are any other changes set to be made to the MG 4 XPower.
MG Motor Australia claims the parts are already en route to Australia and will be available to be installed as soon as possible.
"It's MG XPower customer feedback from around the world that helps guide our engineers and designers to improve and evolve our offering," said a MG Motor Australia spokesperson.
"Seeing UK owners use their new performance hot hatch, whether for work, family or on track, inspired some innovative ideas that drove our HQ's design and development decisions to upgrade the steering damper in the XPower.
"With help of all the rich insights from customers abroad, we've taken this opportunity to put the new steering damper in all XPowers as part of our Pre Delivery Inspection process both in Australia and NZ.
"While this will cause some delays in delivery, we believe that this upgrade will further enhance the driving experience through improved handling and steering response without compromising safety.
"As part of our ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction, MG Motor Australia and NZ are passing on this upgrade free of charge to both existing and future (MY23 & MY24) XPower customers."
At this stage it's unclear when local customer deliveries of the MG 4 XPower will recommence.
As recently reported, the MG 4 XPower was been fast-tracked to Australian showrooms, with customer deliveries starting at the end of October.
Priced at $59,990 before on-road costs, it's the most expensive car MG has sold in Australia since coming under Chinese ownership.
The MG 4 XPower is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup producing 320kW of power and 600Nm of torque. The company also claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 3.8 seconds.
It uses the mid-range 64kWh battery, which can be charged at up to 140kW using DC power, and offers 385km of range on the WLTP cycle.
Kerb weight is 1800kg, or roughly 200kg more than a Mercedes-AMG A45 S that's just 0.1 seconds slower to 100km/h.
Over lesser MG 4 models, the high-performance variants gain orange brake caliper covers, a black roof, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, polished trim accents, Alcantara upholstery, and the availability of a unique Hunter Green exterior finish.
Australian-market models also get a lap timer.
All MG 4s are underpinned by MG's new Modular Scalable Platform, but for the XPower the company has made various technical enhancements.
There are recalibrated springs and dampers, as well as stiffer anti-roll bars, with MG claiming it has increased suspension stiffness by up to 25 per cent. It also claims the steering is sharper.
The MG 4 XPower debuts a new Dynamic Cornering Control System, featuring an electronically locking differential and Intelligent Motor Control that allows for torque vectoring between all four wheels.
There are uprated, ventilated 345mm four-wheel disc brakes sitting behind Bridgestone Turanza tyres.
