* Brittany Higgins claims she was sexually assaulted by Bruce Lehrmann in the Parliament House office of their then boss, senator Linda Reynolds, in March 2019

* She has also accused the former Liberal federal government of covering up her alleged rape because it would damage the party's image

* Lehrmann has always denied anything happened between himself and his then work colleague Ms Higgins

RAPE DENIALS AND DEFAMATION

* The Federal Court is expected to hand down its judgment on Monday in a defamation case brought by Lehrmann against Network Ten and journalist Lisa Wilkinson

* The 28-year-old claims he was easily identified by a report on The Project in February 2021, despite not being named, and that it defamed him by falsely claiming he raped Ms Higgins

* Ten and Wilkinson have defended the case, saying the report was true and in the public interest

* Lehrmann also sued News.com.au and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation for defamation over their coverage of Ms Higgins' allegations

* He has since settled these cases, receiving $445,000 for his legal costs

* A legal spat between Wilkinson and Ten also emerged as the broadcaster initially resisted but then agreed to pay her legal costs of defending the defamation case

WHAT OTHER LAWSUITS ARE THERE?

* Ms Higgins has successfully sued the federal government over how she was treated after reporting the alleged rape

* She received $2.4 million in a confidential settlement in 2022

* Senator Reynolds is pursuing Ms Higgins and her fiance David Sharaz over allegedly defamatory social media posts, including that she "pressured" Ms Higgins not to go to police

* These cases are ongoing in the Western Australia Supreme Court with mediation talks held in March

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CRIMINAL CHARGE?

* While prosecutors charged Lehrmann over the alleged sexual assault, the trial was aborted in October 2022 due to juror misconduct

* Two months later, ACT Director of Public Prosecutions Shane Drumgold announced there would be no retrial

* An ACT Government inquiry into the criminal prosecution made a number of adverse findings against Mr Drumgold including engaging in malpractice and unethical conduct

* An ACT Supreme Court lawsuit filed by Mr Drumgold failed in March to overturn most of those key findings
