Water works
The exhibition Waterways is a reflection of five Canberra artists' experiences of water, fleeting moments of nature, seaside architecture, travel and separation. Victoria Cotton, Sharon Peoples, Prue Power, Rozalie Sherwood and Steve Tomlin examine waterways through the different media of paint, ink, stitch and textiles. The locations range from Canberra waterways, including Lake Burley Griffin, to the South Coast and the English seaside. The exhibition is on until November 6 at The Link at Ginninderry, 90 Stockdill Drive, Holt, ACT. The official opening is on Saturday, September 29 at 2pm.

M16's four shows and a dinner
On at M16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith, until October 14 are four new exhibitions: Silk on the Road by Jeffree Skewes; Testamur, a Canberra Art Workshop Tutored Workshop Exhibition; Edible Plants in Art by The Watercolour Group; and Composition No. 10 by Andres Caycedo. Coming up is M16’s Sunset Soiree, its annual fundraising dinner with special guest National Gallery of Australia director Nick Mitzevich. It's on at Burbury Terrace, 7th floor, Burbury Hotel, 1 Burbury Close, Barton. Bring or wear your artiest flowers. Tickets are $150 a head of which $75 is a tax deduction. Receipts will be mailed to a nominated email address.

Hotel show
GERMANE, a solo show by Clare McShanag, is on at the Park Hyatt Canberra until January 28, 2019. McShanag seeks inspiration from life and movement, capturing the dynamic moments and the colour of life, producing photos that are a mixture of the surreal and abstract. In April 2017 she participated in an international exhibition in Germany celebrating the 500th anniversary of Luther. Her first solo exhibition, The Character of Life, was held at the Solo Lounge in New York. She has also had a solo exhibition at the Black Eye Gallery in Sydney.
Film with a Canberra link
The new Australian film Jirga, currently screening, was shot in under a month in the mountains of Jalalabad, Afghanistan. It features a Canberra rabab player on the soundtrack. Farman Khan of Spence has been in Australia, and Canberra, for five years.
